364-368 West 116th Street | Central Harlem
The scope of work for these three late-nineteenth-century tenement buildings, located in Central Harlem, included full façade brownstone restoration, with both flat panel and decorative work. The removal of the cornice decades ago and inappropriate patch repairs made since had left the buildings in need of sensitive care and repair. To mitigate costs, the buildings were thoroughly surveyed to create a patch-repair scope of work. A restoration strategy was devised in which select architectural details were replicated while others were restored piecemeal so that it is clear what is original and what is not. In addition to the brownstone work, Kamen Tall Architects stabilized deteriorated entry stairs and removed failing coatings. Construction was completed in Fall, 2015.
